Description

Partner, First Round Capital

Founding Partner, @first-round-capital; Founder @half-com (sold to EBay)
Linked In Description:

Josh is a founding Partner at First Round Capital, a seed-stage technology venture fund. Josh has been an active entrepreneur and investor in the Internet industry since its commercialization. In 1992, while he was a student at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Josh co-founded Infonautics Corporation – and took it public on the NASDAQ stock exchange in 1996. Josh founded Half.com in July of 1999, and led it to become one of the largest sellers of used books, movies and music in the world. Half.com was acquired by eBay in July 2000 -- and Josh remained with eBay for three years, running the Half.com business unit and growing eBay’s Media marketplace to almost half a billion dollars in annual gross merchandise sales. In late 2003 Josh helped to found TurnTide, an anti-spam company that created the world's first anti-spam router. TurnTide was acquired by Symantec just six months later. Josh founded First Round Capital in 2004 to reinvent seed-stage investing. And since that time the firm has invested in over 350 emerging technology startups – becoming one of the most active venture capital firms in the country. Josh was ranked 3rd on the 2018 New York Times list of Top Venture Capitalists and consistently ranks in the top 20 of the Forbes Midas List of the top 100 tech investors. Josh has been named as one of the top ten ‘angel investors’ in the United States by Newsweek magazine, one of "Tech's New Kingmakers" by Business 2.0 magazine and a "Rising VC Star" by Fortune magazine. Josh also is the proud winner of a second place ribbon in the 2011 Nantucket Watermelon Eating competition. Josh is an inventor on sixteen U.S. Patents for his work in Internet technology. In June 2000, he was awarded Ernst and Young’s prestigious “Entrepreneur of the Year” award for the Greater Philadelphia region. Josh earned a Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in Entrepreneurial Management and Marketing from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Description

Patent Attorney | Investor Patent Attorney. Stanford Professor. First investor @twilio. Early investor @cruise-automation. Linked In Description: Purpose :: Over the last 20 years, I have supported 10 early stage nonprofits, funded 100 early stage startups, crafted patent applications for 500 early stage startups, taught 750 engineering students at Stanford University, and advised the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Michigan which provides experiential learning for 1000s of engineering students. It took me an embarrassingly long time to connect all of these dots, but I now understand that my purpose on this planet is quite simple: to empower entrepreneurs. Gratitude :: I am incredibly grateful to Diana Lin (my partner in Schox Patent Group), Reilly Brennan (my partner in Trucks Venture Capital), and Kate Schox (my partner in — literarily — everything). ---------------------- Bio :: Jeffrey Schox is the founder of Schox Patent Group, a boutique patent firm focused on startups, and a general partner at Trucks Venture Capital, which funds the entrepreneurs building the future of transportation. Previously, Jeff worked as an engineer on the original electric vehicle at General Motors and as a patent attorney for two of the largest patent law firms before starting his own law firm. Schox Patent Group has prepared and filed 1000+ patent applications and has guided 500+ startups through the due diligence process (resulting in $5B+ raised from venture capital). Trucks Venture Capital, which is now on their second fund, has made 30+ investments, including nuTonomy (acquired), Nauto, Zendrive, Starsky Robotics, May Mobility, SkyRyse and Joby. Jeff has made 100+ angel investments in startups, including Twilio (first investor, IPO) and Cruise (early investor, acquired by GM for a reported $1B). As a Lecturer for Stanford University, Jeff teaches the course "Patent Law and Strategy for Innovators and Entrepreneurs.” He is also the Advisory Board Chair for the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Michigan.

How to connect with Angel Investors in the Woman Focused industry?

In the Woman Focused industry, angel investors such as Sheryl Sandberg, Jessica Alba, and Anne Wojcicki are highly active. These investors focus on startups offering innovative solutions for women's health, empowerment, and lifestyle. Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, invests in women-focused startups that promote gender equality and women's leadership. Jessica Alba, co-founder of The Honest Company, looks for companies that provide health-conscious and sustainable products for women. Anne Wojcicki, co-founder of 23andMe, seeks out startups with strong scientific foundations and significant impact potential in women's health. To connect with these investors, attend women-focused conferences, health expos, and networking events such as the Women’s Health Innovation Summit, Women 2.0, and the Women’s Venture Summit. Utilize platforms like AngelList and LinkedIn to identify and reach out to potential investors. When pitching, emphasize how your woman-focused solution addresses key challenges, such as improving women's health, enhancing empowerment, or providing new lifestyle products. Highlight any traction you’ve gained, such as user growth, positive feedback from customers, or partnerships with women’s organizations. Building relationships through initial informal meetings or discussions at industry panels can help establish trust with these investors. Demonstrating the impact of your technology or product through case studies or user testimonials can also add credibility. Personalize your outreach by referencing the investor’s previous investments and explaining how your venture aligns with their interests. Demonstrating a sustainable business model with clear revenue streams, such as product sales, subscription fees, or service contracts, will further strengthen your pitch. Leveraging endorsements or case studies from women’s health or empowerment experts can also enhance your credibility.
