Description

Jason Pressman is a Co- Founder and serves as Managing Director & Partner at Shasta Ventures. He also is an Angel Investor. He serves as the Board of Directors at Deep Sentinel. He leads the enterprise practice at Shasta Ventures and invests across a range of sectors including enterprise software, SaaS, cloud and consumer services. A company builder who played an integral role in the development of one of today's largest online businesses, Jason acts as a thought partner, advocate and counselor to entrepreneurs looking to take their companies from initial proof of product-market fit to industry dominance. As a partner at Shasta, Jason has been an active investor in cloud computing, with an emphasis on next-generation applications, systems management and open source software. His previous investments include Makara (acquired by RedHat) and iConclude (acquired by Opsware). Jason currently serves on the boards of application performance management startup Crittercism, Scala open source software platform Typesafe and SaaS subscription billing company Zuora, as well as local social guide Nextdoor and mobile platform Smule. Prior to joining Shasta in 2005, Jason was Vice President, Strategy and Operations at venture-backed Walmart.com, where he took the online retailer from zero to large scale revenue in five years. His experience growing that business into one of largest retailers online informs his understanding of how to thoughtfully scale fast-growing businesses, as well as how to use software to improve operations. Previously, Jason worked as an investment banker to venture-backed companies at Alex.Brown. Jason earned an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BS in Finance from University of Maryland.

How to connect with Angel Investors in the Local Commerce industry?

In the Local Commerce industry, angel investors such as Tim Ferriss, Chris Sacca, and Naval Ravikant are highly active. These investors focus on startups offering innovative solutions in local retail, community marketplaces, and hyperlocal services. Tim Ferriss, an author and entrepreneur, invests in local commerce startups that leverage technology to enhance customer experience and business efficiency. Chris Sacca, founder of Lowercase Capital, looks for companies that provide scalable and impactful local commerce solutions. Naval Ravikant, co-founder of AngelList, seeks out startups with strong community engagement and local business support. To connect with these investors, attend local commerce conferences, retail expos, and networking events such as ShopTalk, Localogy, and Retail Innovation Conference. Utilize platforms like AngelList and LinkedIn to identify and reach out to potential investors. When pitching, emphasize how your local commerce solution addresses key challenges, such as improving customer acquisition, enhancing business operations, or supporting local economies. Highlight any traction you’ve gained, such as partnerships with local businesses, user growth, or positive feedback from customers. Building relationships through initial informal meetings or discussions at industry panels can help establish trust with these investors. Demonstrating the impact of your technology or service through case studies or user testimonials can also add credibility. Personalize your outreach by referencing the investor’s previous investments and explaining how your venture aligns with their interests. Demonstrating a sustainable business model with clear revenue streams, such as transaction fees, subscription fees, or service contracts, will further strengthen your pitch. Leveraging endorsements or case studies from local commerce experts can also enhance your credibility.
