Description

David Wu serves as a Partner at Maveron. He joined Maveron in 2012 to help identify new investments in emerging consumer Internet companies. Wu is a successful entrepreneur, technology executive and angel investor who began his two-decade career in the computer and Internet industries, writing a few hundred thousand lines of C++ code at Scitor and Synopsys. He subsequently spent 10 years at Homestead.com, where he was chief product officer, CFO and COO, helping grow the company to more than 400,000 paying subscribers and its eventual acquisition by Intuit for $170 million in 2007. Following the acquisition of Homestead, Wu managed a variety of Intuit's businesses as a vice president in the Small Business Group, including QuickBooks Online and Intuit.com. At Intuit and Homestead, Wu worked with Homestead board member, Intuit Board Chairman and Maveron Senior Advisor Bill Campbell, who recommended Wu to Maveron. Wu led Maveron V's investments in Darby Smart and Aria Innovations and serves on each company's board. He sourced and led Maveron IV's investment in August Home, where he was a board member, as well as several Maveron seed investments. Wu has strong ties to the Silicon Valley entrepreneurial community. Prior to joining Maveron, he invested in 22 startups, including SeatMe, Practice Fusion, Sociable Labs, Postmates, Beautylish and Taulia (at June 30, 2014, this portfolio was marked at 4.4x cost). How to connect with Angel Investors in the Healthcare industry?

In the Healthcare & Wellness industry, angel investors such as Vinod Khosla, Esther Dyson, and Mark Cuban are prominent figures. These investors focus on startups offering innovative solutions in digital health, fitness technology, and wellness platforms. Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, invests in HealthTech startups that have the potential to significantly improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. Esther Dyson, an entrepreneur and investor, looks for companies that leverage technology to enhance health and wellness. Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks and a renowned entrepreneur, seeks out startups that provide scalable and impactful fitness solutions. To connect with these investors, attend HealthTech conferences, fitness expos, and networking events such as HLTH, CES, and Health 2.0. Utilize platforms like AngelList and LinkedIn to identify and reach out to potential investors. When pitching, emphasize how your HealthTech or fitness solution addresses key challenges, such as improving patient care, enhancing fitness tracking, or promoting wellness. Highlight any traction you’ve gained, such as partnerships with healthcare providers, user growth, or positive feedback from early adopters. Building relationships through initial informal meetings or discussions at industry panels can help establish trust with these investors. Demonstrating the impact of your technology through case studies or pilot programs can also add credibility. Personalize your outreach by referencing the investor’s previous investments and explaining how your venture aligns with their interests. Demonstrating a sustainable business model with clear revenue streams, such as subscription fees, product sales, or service contracts, will further strengthen your pitch. Leveraging endorsements or case studies from HealthTech or fitness experts can also enhance your credibility.
