What is JMI Realty?

JMI Realty is a private real estate investment and development firm that was established in 1992 as the real estate investment subsidiary of JMI Services, Inc., the investment vehicle of the John J. Moores family.

They have been recognized for their role as the Master Developer of the Ballpark District for the City of San Diego and the San Diego Padres. This led to over $3.0 billion of redevelopment, showcasing a national example of successful urban revitalization.

JMI Realty's investment portfolio is currently valued at approximately $800 million, and they have sold approximately $550 million in land, office, hotel, and multifamily investments. The firm also develops and acquires hotel projects, such as the development of three lodging properties comprising 1,030 hotel rooms, acquiring a 1,000-room hotel chain, and undertaking the development of three additional hotels totaling nearly 2,500 rooms since January 2002.

JMI Realty has been involved in urban redevelopment, including two mixed-use master plan developments and a master plan for revitalizing a 26-block area around the Fullerton Train Station. They have completed residential projects like The Metropolitan Condominiums, the first condo/hotel development in Southern California, and office projects like Paseo del Mar, a campus-style office development in San Diego.

Beyond the real estate domain, John J. Moores, the founder, is a well-known entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist, and sports team owner, recognized for his previous role as the chairman of BMC Software.
