Macquarie Generation, a NSW State Owned Corporation established in 1996, operates in the energy sector with a focus on electricity production and wholesale within the National Electricity Market. Once primarily involved in coal-fired electricity generation through its facilities in the Hunter Valley, Macquarie Generation has been active in supporting New South Wales power needs for decades.

Notably, the Liddell Power Station generated electricity for over 50 years, and the Bayswater Power Station still contributes significant capacity, meeting 20% of the state's electricity demand.
