What is VentureSouth?

VentureSouth is an angel investment fund that began in 2008 with the establishment of the Upstate Carolina Angel Network (UCAN) in Greenville, SC. Since then, it has transformed into one of the largest and most active angel investment groups in the United States, boasting nearly 600 member investors across the Southeast region.

VentureSouth emphasizes on supporting and fostering the growth of innovative startups within a variety of sectors including Software, PropTech, BioTech, AgroTech, Business Solutions, FinTech, Hardware Manufacturing, Energy, IoT, CleanTech, AI & Big Data, HealthTech, Blockchain & Cryptos, Web Security, Analytics, Cloud Services, Medical Devices, Aerospace & Defense, Real Estate, DeepTech, Healthcare, Music, Consumer, and Pharmaceutical industries.

They target investment opportunities in the early stages of a company's growth, focusing on Pre-Seed, Seed, and Series A funding rounds. VentureSouth customarily invests between $5,000 and $20,000, with a sweet spot investment size around $10,000.

The group's success can be accredited in part to the diverse expertise of its members and the leadership of co-founder and Managing Director Matt Dunbar, who brings substantial experience from his previous roles, including as a Project Leader at Boston Consulting Group and an engineer at Eastman Chemical Company.

Dunbar, along with the VentureSouth team, offers critical support to entrepreneurs through active engagement, which includes serving on corporate boards to ensure the fund's investments grow into successful and sustainable businesses.
