Renault S.A. is a French multinational vehicle manufacturer founded in 1899, producing a wide array of cars and vans. The company has a rich history with a variety of operations including, but not limited to, the production of trucks, tractors, tanks, and buses. Renault has been a significant force in the European automotive industry, being the third largest automaker in Europe and ninth globally in terms of production as of 2011.
With its headquarters in Boulogne-Billancourt, Renault operates not just under its primary brand but also through subsidiaries such as Automobile Dacia in Romania and Renault Samsung Motors in South Korea. The group has an extensive investment portfolio including a 43.4% controlling stake in Nissan, a 25% stake in AvtoVAZ, and a 1.55% stake in Daimler AG. It also owns RCI Banque, Renault Retail Group, and Motrio.
Although part of Renault Trucks was sold to Volvo Trucks, Renault Agriculture became fully owned by CLAAS. Their investment internationally is evident through joint ventures like Oyak-Renault in Turkey, Renault Pars in Iran, and Dongfeng Renault in China.
While Carlos Ghosn leads as the chairman and CEO, and the French government retains a 15% stake, the company flourishes under the Renault-Nissan Alliance, forming the fourth-largest automobile group. Renault and Nissan are innovating in electric transport, investing 4 billion euros in the development of eight electric vehicles within a three-to-four-year timespan beginning in 2011.
Renault takes pride in its European roots and is synonymous with motor sport success, particularly in rallying and Formula 1. Their website highlights their commitment to sustainable development, safety, and diversity, underlining objectives such as achieving net carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and globally by 2050. They stress on continuous innovation for vehicle safety and champion social inclusion through mobility.
The group has announced plans to bolster its brand portfolio with 10 launches by 2024, and awards like the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Alpine A290 being voted Car of the Year 2025 speak volumes of their impact. As an investment entity, Renault's fund invests in projects with a minimum of 15,000,000 euros and a maximum cap of 100,000,000 euros, proving their significant financial capability and dedication to advancing the automotive industry.
