What is KBC Focus Fund?

KBC Focus Fund, managed by KBC Securities and part of the KBC Group, is a venture capital fund headquartered in Belgium, specializing in early stage and seed investments within the nano technology, microelectronics, and Internet of Things (IoT) sectors. They target companies that are either part of the Start It @ KBC incubator or focus on the aforementioned technological fields looking for funding.

With ambitions to propel the nano technology, microelectronics, and IoT sector, the KBC Focus Fund mainly invests in Belgium and its neighboring countries, areas recognized for top expertise centers in these technologies.

KBC Group's investments include stakes in university spin-off funds such as Gemma Frisius Fund and Qbic, as well as Imec.xpand, providing the fund with significant insights into deal flow and potential new ventures. The fund differentiates itself with deep knowledge of the tech ecosystem and supports start-ups from the idea phase to initial public offerings, leveraging expert M&A, Corporate Finance, and Research & Sales teams.

They offer investments up to EUR 5 million over the life cycle of a company, with a preference for initial rounds between EUR 0.5 million and EUR 2.5 million, and can serve as either lead or co-investor. Their strategy involves being 'hand-by' rather than 'hands-on,' meaning they assist their portfolio companies as needed, providing them with extensive network and expertise throughout their growth stages, up to the IPO.
