BYU Cougar Capital is a student-run venture capital and private equity fund operated by 2nd year MBA students from the Marriott School at Brigham Young University. Founded in 2005 and based in Provo, Utah, they manage an investment fund that combines academic learning with real-world financial experiences. As an evergreen fund sustained through donations, BYU Cougar Capital collaborates extensively with established venture capital and private equity firms, leveraging these partnerships to source almost all of its deal flow. They concentrate on adding value to their partners' investment processes through thorough due diligence before investments and in-depth post-deal analysis for the companies in which they invest. BYU Cougar Capital students are hands-on in seeking out investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, and deploying capital, thereby gaining practical experience in the investment management industry. Faculty advisor Gary Williams, alongside a knowledgeable academic advisory board and advisors from the industry, ensures that the program provides robust educational value. An integral part of their ecosystem, The Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology at BYU supports the fund by fostering a nurturing environment for students interested in starting and growing tech and scalable ventures. The fund marks over two decades of investing in promising companies across various sectors in alignment with their educational mission.
