What is Sopartec S.A.?

Sopartec S.A. is a venture capital fund that operates as the technology transfer and investment company of the Catholic University of Louvain (UCLouvain). Situated in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, they are primarily tasked with the valorization of research outcomes through the creation of spin-offs and the negotiation of license agreements. Their mission is carried out within the framework of the Louvain Technology Transfer Office (LTTO), with a focus on commercializing the research conducted at UCLouvain, the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc (CUSL), the CHU UCL Namur, and the de Duve Institute (ICP).

They partner with Vives investment funds (VIVES) which are multi-sector funds investing in UCLouvain spin-offs as well as tech startups in Belgium and neighboring countries. Sopartec specializes in equity investments with a minimum investment range starting at 60,000 euros and can go up to a maximum of 1,000,000 euros.

With 12 million euros in assets under management, they have expertise in seed, startup, and early-stage investments, covering diverse industries such as Software (Web Marketplace SaaS, etc.), IT (TMT), BioTech, Hardware (Manufacturing), Energy, HealthTech (Fitness), Material Science, and Medical Devices (Hospital Services).

Their purpose is to support development and innovation by investing in promising ventures and assisting in bringing revolutionary ideas and technologies from the research lab to the market, thus contributing to the dynamic ecosystem of tech entrepreneurship.
