What is Long Island High Technology Incubator?

Long Island High Technology Incubator (LIHTI) is a non-profit organization founded as a component of Stony Brook University and University Medical Center. Established in 1992, LIHTI's core mission is to facilitate the growth and success of technology-driven companies.

They achieve this by providing a nurturing environment replete with various support resources and services tailored to meet the needs of innovative startups. LIHTI plays a pivotal role in economic development by assisting companies through their formative stages, and upon 'graduation', these companies emerge as viable and competitive entities that contribute meaningfully to the broader economy.

Throughout its history, LIHTI has supported over 70 businesses, with 44 of them successfully exiting the incubation program.

These graduate companies collectively have made a significant economic impact, contributing over $2.5 billion to the national economy, while also being a source of employment for more than 500 individuals. LIHTI prides itself on the recognition it has received, notably being ranked as the number one mixed-technology incubator in the United States by the National Business Incubation Association in 2003.

LIHTI remains active in fostering a positive economic and innovative impact by continuously helping early-stage ventures develop into sustainable businesses, thereby reinforcing the technology sector and job creation within the Long Island region and beyond.
