The Global Health Investment Fund (GHIF) is a social impact investment fund established to finance the progression of drugs, vaccines, diagnostics, and other interventions aimed at combating diseases that disproportionately affect low- and middle-income countries. GHIF is operated by Global Health Investment Corporation (GHIC), a nonprofit organization headquartered in New York. Their investment portfolio concentrates on enhancing global health security and addressing pressing international health issues, such as infectious diseases and maternal and child health concerns.
GHIF, with its $108 million social impact fund, has backed twelve companies that are developing clinical diagnostics, medical devices, vaccines, and therapeutics targeting infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and cholera. Through these investments, the fund has successfully enabled the commercialization of over a dozen products, reaching an audience of over 100 million individuals.
In addition, in collaboration with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), GHIC invests in ventures aiding the development and commercialization of technologies to counter or prevent public health emergencies, including pandemics and various global health security risks.
Gary Disbrow, Ph.D., the director of BARDA, emphasizes the necessity of engaging with the entrepreneurial community to develop innovative solutions for evolving health security threats.
Furthermore, GHIC engages a broad network of partners and investors including leading foundations, corporations, nonprofit institutions, and governmental agencies, many of whom are well-regarded pioneers in the global health impact investing space. GHIC also avails opportunities for new partnerships and collaboration to innovate and address global health challenges.
On the employment front, GHIC is seeking mission-driven individuals to join the cause and bring about substantial changes in global health while fostering an inclusive work environment and drawing from varied expertise and perspectives.
