The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, operating under Clean Cooking Alliance, is a public-private partnership that aims to foster a market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions. Established in 2010 and based in Washington, D.C., their investment activities focus on IT, TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecom), Energy, CleanTech, and HealthTech sectors, acknowledging a connection between these industries and the advancement of their mission towards sustainable and healthy cooking practices. As a proponent of improved cookstoves and cooking practices, they aim to address the global issue where nearly one-third of people rely on polluting fuels like charcoal, wood, and kerosene. Recognizing the health hazards and environmental impact of such practices, they foresee clean cooking as a way to reduce carbon emissions and prevent millions of deaths annually. Through advocacy, communication, research, and direct investment, encompassing a minimum and maximum investment value of $1,000,000, they actively work towards building a thriving market and influencing policy in favor of clean cooking solutions. Their activities involve supporting clean cooking companies with financing and expertise, training women entrepreneurs and youth, and backing pertinent research, which has already yielded over 60 peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, they promote responsible carbon markets to expedite access to clean cooking solutions, with strategies in place such as the CLEAR Methodology and a dashboard tracking clean cooking carbon projects.
