Better Futures is an initiative by the Mayor of London aimed at nurturing a cleaner, more sustainable and equal city in the wake of the pandemic, with a particular focus on tackling climate and ecological emergencies and creating quality jobs. The program's central thesis is to support London’s journey to becoming a net-zero city by 2030.
For the past seven years, Better Futures has been providing support to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in London that strive for innovation, growth, job creation, and promoting diversity. With the goal of making London a hub for cleantech, low carbon, and resource-efficient industry, Better Futures rewards businesses that take significant steps in cutting carbon emissions.
The support includes a range of services from leadership and management support, co-working space, and business support in areas such as marketing and supply chain to product development.
The program offers specialized help to cleantech startups, such as through partnerships with Sustainable Ventures and Imperial College London for retrofit accelerator projects. Better Futures also offers Green Business Support in collaboration with West London Business aiming to future-proof businesses for a zero-carbon future.
The initiative maintains a directory of businesses that provide cleantech products and innovative solutions for London’s sustainability challenges. Moreover, it features articles and blogs related to the cleantech industry.
The program has previously received funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Mayor’s Green New Deal Fund, designed to support the growth of London-based businesses that focus on producing environmentally friendly technologies, goods, and services.
