What is Pontis Capital?

Pontis Capital is a Vienna-based venture capital firm that operates as a private, owner-managed investment and advisory company.

Founded in March 2005 by Gerhard Fiala and other partners, the firm has successfully established itself as an independent management company for smaller, institutional private equity funds. Initially functioning as a partnership until 2015, Pontis Capital's investment focus has been on small and medium-sized, technology-oriented companies within the German-speaking regions.

Throughout its history, the firm has supported portfolio companies in their strategic and financial growth, often concluding in sales to reputable strategic partners or global financial investors in the US or the EU. Today, Pontis Capital continues to emphasize strategic projects and transactions primarily in German-speaking European countries, with an additional concentration on entrepreneurial engagements in sustainable growth industries.

With over two decades of experience in investment and transaction business (Private Equity, M&A, Corporate Finance, IPO), as well as in operational and strategic company development and management focusing on financial management in various innovative and technology-oriented economic sectors, the team has built an extensive, resilient network with notable financial investors, banks, consulting firms, and companies in the mid-market and industrial sectors.

Gerhard Fiala, the founder, was also the initiator, co-founder, and first chairman of the Austrian national association AVCO - Austrian Private Equity and Venture Capital Organisation in Vienna, as well as a board member of the European association EVCA - European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (now Invest Europe) in Brussels.
