What is Development Capital?

Development Capital, established in 2013 and stationed in Dublin, Ireland, functions as an investment division of Bdo Llp. It is specifically dedicated to making growth investments in mid-sized entities.

With a focus on industries such as food, agriculture, life sciences, cleantech, information and communications technology, industrial sectors, and more, they cater to the needs of ambitious Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) through the provision of development and growth capital ranging from €2 million to €12 million.

They align primarily with businesses that recognize significant growth possibilities in export markets and require funds for their enhancement or acceleration.

Development Capital's investment approach is threefold: providing more than just funding, they leverage experience and market knowledge to maximize the growth potential of SMEs; flexibility in investment structure, tailoring investment instruments to specific business needs using equity, quasi-equity, or debt; and functioning as a minority investor, typically investing for a 5-year term in exchange for minority stakes.

Their track record includes the Development Capital Fund I, a €75 million fund, which has invested in 9 Irish companies from 2014 to 2019. Supporting various growth strategies like organic growth, production capacity expansion, bolt-on acquisitions, MBOs/MBIs, and shareholder restructurings, they are active partners working alongside management teams.

Additionally, responsible investing is at their core, as they integrate Sustainability Risks into their investment process, managing ESG issues post-investment, and ensuring businesses are a good fit with their values. Development Capital is a registered Alternative Investment Fund Manager (AIFM) and complies with the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR).
