I’m an entrepreneur and venture capitalist with a passion for expanding technological innovation into smaller, underrepresented Midwestern communities. In line with this passion and commitment, I founded Heartland Ventures, a $40mm midwest-based venture fund, to enhance Silicon Valley startups’ access to this market. With offices in San Francisco, Indiana, and Ohio, Heartland Ventures connects coastal startups to their largest customers within the recently flourishing and often overlooked Midwestern market.

I wear a few hats at Chicago Ventures. But let's start with a bit about who we are:CV is an early stage venture firm that leads seed stage investments outside of Silicon Valley. We believe that enduring companies can be built anywhere, and have made nearly 100 investments that validate that our thesis is playing out. Check out our portfolio companies here: http://chicagoventures.com/portfolio/We have dedicated resources over the past 7 years to operationally support the companies we invest in - this is what we call Platform, or "post-investment," and is where I come in. I work with CV's portfolio companies on areas like matchmaking talent; connecting into customers; marketing, communication and PR; and building community, content, and events to help scale up and skill up more efficiently.Outside of Platform, I also own Investor Relations, and our Marketing, Communications and Brand. In 2018 I launched the non-profit Chicago:Blend, a collaborative effort of venture capitalists in Chicago who know that diverse teams and inclusive environments are critical foundations for both the startups we invest in and our own venture firms.I'm also a Kauffman Fellow Class 23; and serve as a Governing Board member at Lookingglass Theatre [a Tony-award winning theatre that focuses on the spectacular and the physical].I started swimming when I was 5 and got hooked on triathlons in 2012.

Founded in 2000, Spire Capital is an active and experienced private equity firm with an investment focus in small market companies within the business services, information services, media, and communications sectors. Spire Capital currently has approximately $600 million in assets under management across two funds. Spire Capital focuses on companies typically under $100 million in Enterprise Value with significant operating leverage, barriers to entry, recurring revenue streams and superior growth potential. Spire creates value by (i) expanding distribution channels, (ii) broadening geographic territory, (iii) increasing the number of, and demand for, products or services, (iv) pursuing strategic acquisitions and (v) facilitating new business relationships for our companies within our vast network of relationships. Spire Capital's primary focus on small market companies with enterprise value of $100MM or less (typically $5.0MM-$10MM in EBITDA) insulates it to some degree to the extremely competitive upper small market and mid market where firms typically focus on companies with EBITDA of $10MM or more and enterprise values exceeding $100MM. The firm's investment focus is almost exclusively domestic.

Cyprium Partners (Cyprium) is a private investment firm that provides mezzanine and equity capital to profitable, middle-market companies. On June 1, 2011, due to the recent passing of the Dodd-Frank financial legislation, the investment and finance teams at Key Principal Partners (KPP) resigned to form Cyprium Partners. The firm differentiates itself as a flexible investor that can provide any combination of subordinated debt, preferred equity and/or common equity in either non-control (minority ownership) or control (majority ownership) positions. Cyprium strives to be a value-added investor that supports the growth, acquisition, refinancing or liquidity needs of private company owners and their management teams. Cyprium looks to invest in manufacturing, distribution or service oriented companies with sales between $30 million and $250 million, a minimum EBITDA of $10 million, and a history of growth and profitable operation. Cyprium will invest from $10 million to $60 million in any combination of the following capital securities: Subordinated debt; Preferred stock; Common equity; Warrants, options and equity participation rights. To date Cyprium has invested $1.1 billion in 69 companies.
