Recently formed by a former executive of Palantir Technologies, Formation8 is looking to raise a $500M fund (according to SEC filings). Formation8 is spearheaded by Joe Lonsdale, a founder of Palantir Technologies, a private company focused on analyzing, integrating, and visualizing data. Prior to Palantir, Lonsdale was an early executive at Clarium Capital where he helped Peter Thiel grow the global macro fund to $5 Billion in assets under management. Lonsdale is also founder and Chairman at Addepar, a private wealth management technology company. He previously invested out of Anduin Ventures and recently worked with Lady Gaga to launch Backplane. The firm announced Dec. 2014 that it closed its second fund at about $500 million.
